Got Sneakers

Hi Everyone,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I need to share something with you that will be a big challenge for my family. I want to make clear that while this news is not welcome there is a clear path ahead with a still very hopeful and positive outcome! What I will need from you is to be supportive AND act normal. My family is and will be fine for Many Years to come.

In the last two weeks Lisa has been having tests because of her persistent coughing. We have been very close to the vest until we knew exactly what she was dealing with. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, Nov.22, we learned the Lisa has metastatic breast cancer. As you know, we have had all Lisa’s treatment at the World’s Best Cancer Center, Dana Farber. As upsetting and scary as this news is, we have a wonderful oncologist, Dr. Wendy Chen, who has been with us since Lisa was first diagnosed. After leaving her consult Tuesday, the clouds of dread and worry were lifting, and the sunshine of optimism was breaking through. While there are no guarantees, there is a strong and proven treatment plan in place that has shown to help patients like Lisa live for many, many years! The best way to describe the very likely path for Lisa’s future, it is best described as “living with cancer”.

Much like people, like me, who deal with well controlled diabetes, Lisa will have every likelihood of have a normal daily like with very little restrictions for many years! The first month of getting the oral medications into her system is considered the toughest. With luck, Lisa’s positive attitude will allow her to pass this time with minor troubles and allow her to enjoy Christmas and New Years with her usual Joy and Happiness.

I am sure you are wondering how Lisa is doing mentally. There is no question that she has and will continue to need to relay on the POWER OF PRAYER. As always, her positive spirit wins the day! Failure is NOT AN OPTION! As for myself, I am right there with her in sharing the very same optimism on the path ahead. Peter is also going to be our wingman in this too. With this being the third time with this, we will be there for Lisa with every once of our combined strength!

Now, I know you have very real concern for Lisa. We have only told immediate family until this point and now are letting our closet friends know now that we have a much better understanding of what is ahead. I know you will want to reach out to Lisa and myself. We will certainly welcome this! What I ask is for your understanding if we don’t get right back to you as I anticipate we will many of you contact either of us in short order. The most important thing to remember is we Greatly Appreciate and Love All of you! We will get back to you as soon as we are able to talk about this with you. The MOST IMPORTANT THING that you can do for Lisa and us to pray and send positive thoughts for Lisa’s BEST OUTCOME! Please accept our best wishes for a Wonderful Christmas and Holiday season.

With LOVE AND GREAT OPTIMISM ,
Lou
